Whip Smart
Went to see Liz Phair Friday night with the boys. It was an acoustic show with just she and her partner, Dino. They were phenomenal. Started with Polyester Bride. Ended with Fuck & Run. Bob is remixing one of her new songs so we went backstage after the show to say hi. I got to bug her. She was a good sport. She caught me singing (read: butchering) Whip Smart so she helped me finish the chorus. I've decided I have a huge crush on her. Please don't tell Rob. I think she is probably the only woman I could cross over to the dark side for. Again, please don't tell Rob. New CD, Somebody's Miracle, comes out October 4th. Please support my new girlfriend. And, yes, I will be her whore. I don't care.
Saturday morning we all went to the beach. AWESOME time. Met up with a bunch of people. Here's what I remember (in no particular order): warm ocean water, handstands, sun, sushi, thunderstorms, putting sunscreen on Joe, dolphins, Tim & Donn, beer, Bob waiting for us at 6pm sharp, hugs, dinner at Sole, sushi, ice cream, running out of the Sandcastle so no one would see us staying there, good times. My lips are chapped.
Love my friends. Seriously.
Oh, by the way, if you spent money on seeing a movie called, "The Dukes of Hazzard," please stop reading my blog and stay away from me. We would not get along. Thanks.

Wish I was there and not at work.

I love Liz Phair and we went to college together, but she didn't know me. I wasn't anywhere near cool enough. (Also, I was a year or two younger.)
I am content with still photos of Johnny Knoxville and Seann William Scott.

I'm pretty surprised how many people say they are not familiar with her (mostly gay guys). I always say, "Yes you have heard her music you just don't know it's her." And then I end up humming "Why Can't I?" I'm sick of doing that.
One guy said he thought Liz Phair stopped touring a few years ago. (He was referring to the all female concert event w/ Sarah MacLachlan). Sad.

Very cool that you got to meet her! I loved her since the Exile days and am glad she got some commerical success with her last album.
Please don't cross over to the dark side...

Well, Matt, I will count on your assistance to keep me on the right side. ;-)
Anyway, I love her new stuff. I know she gets a lot of shit for it but I think it's awesome. It's what she wants to do right now and I really don't think it's all that commercial. The melodies might seem to be but the lyrics sure are not. The boys and I got into a big debate over the lyrics to "Why Can't I?" over the weekend (since that's the one fucking song everyone seemed to know right away). Listen to them again. It's not like it's a sweet li'l love song. It's about fantasizing about being with someone else. "We haven't fucked yet but my head's spinning." Awww, yeah. And it's kinda hot.

tijjy, i am pleased to see that you are exploring your block-rockin phabulosity with such vim and vigor and verve - i only wish that we were stormin' the scene together still ;o( we love liz phair - though clearly, i think 'supernova' is her hottest song: "and you phuck like a volcano and you're everything to me" - Hot! Dirrrrrty!
