Creepshow
Bill Maher mentioned this creepiness on his show. A daughter promises her father that she won't let her cherry get popped until she gets married -- like a paternal clitoriectomy. So they have a ceremony to pledge this commitment. Eeeeeewww. Very disturbing. I smell incest.

Very disturbing and creepy indeed. Not surprised this took place in Colorado Springs. That town is ground zero for evangelical wackos, and fundamentalist causes nowadays...a sesspool of ignorance. The overall concept is fine, but you can accomplish the same thing with a heart to heart talk with your daughter. Again, why does everything have to be a performance with these wackos?

I saw the same story on The Today Show... it is very creepy... and if you see the girls, they are pretty creepy too... on Today they had a girl who made the promise and then did not follow through, once, as she says, she realized that it was a way for a man to control her complete life... her father until she got married, then the husband... not allowing her to be her own person... so now I think she is a slut...hmmm... happy weekend!

A complete crock if you ask me. Some beefy football player is going to come along, promise that he'll be a good boy, one thing will lead to another and next thing you know she's sucking him off under the bleachers at the football field. I should know, that was my first foray into the world of sex.
More power to 'em if they can live by this, but yuck. Another brainwashing scheme.

In the absence of any true religion, I've decided to worship Bill Maher. I can't even comment on that bullshit. If I think about it for one more second, I'll explode.

How do you know if you're doing it right unless you get several opinions?

Can't stand that "promise to remain virginal" crap. Is a girl supposed to feel soiled and utterly of no value if she has sex with someone before marriage?
Also, are the guys promising their mothers anything similar? Doubt it.

That's so fucked- "I'm keeping my hymen for Daddy" fucked.

Ya know, several crass comments come to mind however, I'll keep it clean. Creepy hell, it sounds disgusting.

It always gave my dad the icks when my sister and I would watch American shows where the Dad was always running around trying to "protect" his daughter from boys, and locking her in her room. I mean like "Those ppl live in caves and throw feces at each other." kind of ick factor. Nice to know it's not just me.

The wording on the Pledge is really creepy to me: the father talking about "covering" his daughter. A stallion "covers" a mare to produce foals. And "high priests" have been known, over the millenia, to sexually dominate their chattel.
Waay. creepy.
How is it that so many of these fundy things have such a reek of twisted kinky sex to them?

This news even made a show called Lateline here in Australia. I watched in horror, lacquered with a little relief that I am now a hemisphere away from these loonies.

I am surprised they cut out the last bit of the pledge, about how it was up to daddy to finally take his daughter's virginity when the time was right (age 16).
