The "C" Word

Someone close to me thinks some of my language may be offensive to others. That's just fucking retarded. I mean, really, why is the "c" word so much more offensive than, say, "bitch", "slut", "firecrotch" or "Nancy Grace"?

I don't think I'm offended so much by certain words, mainly because I've been called all of them, I think. If someone calls me a faggot, I'm like, "I am! Tell me something I didn't know, fucktard!" They usually add, "You're ugly, too! -- to which, I have no response. :(

Here's a new word to add to your lexicon: Gerds!

Gerds are gay nerds.

"A bunch of gerds got together to play Dungeons & Dragons, again."

Nothing wrong with it. You are what you are.

For the record, I'm a gork.

Anyway, what word(s) offends you?

UPDATE: Stina takes the "c" word head on in her blog. And applies directly to the meaning. She doesn't address gerds, though.

"Ann Coulter"

Well in my lexicon, dork = cute, so course you being a big gork works to your advantage. Duh.

So, is there any difference between a gerd and a gomo? Just, in case, you know, it comes up at my next homotaku gathering...

I don't get offended by words. But ever since 7th grade English class, I find the word "liripoop" disturbing for some reason.
ex:"Your liripoop is hanging crooked"
And for the record, you are far from ugly.

I'd say "c" is pretty offensive, since it's not only an ugly word, but rarely used positively. It depends on who is saying it: owning one makes it different than not. Also any suggesting of "fish" is hateful and should never be uttered by gay men, who squeal at the thought of baiting their own hooks.

On the other hand I believe "fuck" should be used a comma. Or when Republican matrons like Barbara Bush are present. Words that offend me are those used incorrectly by supposedly educated people, like your for you're, their for they're and frack for fuck.

Don't forget "irregardless" Carl!

Posted by: TOS at March 4, 2007 08:54 PM

I have a dirty, filthy, rotten mouth, but the "c" word is a bit much for me. I think for the reasons that copperred listed. The context always seems to be a special kind of hateful. My friend tells me you can't say "retarded" anymore. And "supposebly" makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

OK! This is a topic that is often discussed in my group of friends. I have southern parents (Mom, WV and Dad, AL) and I went to school in South Carolina but I grew up in PG county so I am used to hearing the English language misused. Some words and phrases that are not my favorite:

*The “c” word is offensive but I recognize it has its uses from time to time.

*“Straight in the street, Gay in the sheets”…who are these queens kidding?

*Fixin…as in…I am fixin to go to work.

*Using the word “on” in correctly…I will see you on tomorrow…you know you have heard it!

*“At this point in time”

*Vis-à-vis…I work in non-profit org development…I hear this a lot and it is usually spoken by people who enjoy hearing themselves speak!

*Panties, moist…together or separately creep me out.

*Can I ax you a question?

*Synergy…this just drives me out of my mind!

dBud: "Fixin" was often used by my parents and extended family. I reckon it doesn't bother me unless I'm with a bunch of northerners.

The only words that offend me are "Ann" followed by "Coulter."

Posted by: Jim at March 4, 2007 11:17 PM

"Masc".

"VGL" that's really an abbreviation, I know.

Dangling prepositions make me cringe. Also, I do not like the word 'faggot' because it is almost always used in a hateful way.

Posted by: Bubala at March 5, 2007 09:56 AM

'sup, bro, bud, chillin', jackin', dude. Hell most words seen on Craigslist.

dBud: Hey, what's wrong with "bud"?!?

Posted by: Gay Canuck in the Capital at March 5, 2007 09:58 AM

Um, everyone is calling it the "c" word. What IS that... Cigger??

Its CUNT people. CUNT CUNT CUNT. Jesus fucking H Christ-- its just a word.

And I use it in a positive manner when I say "oh yeah daddy! fuck my buttcunt!"

Posted by: cb at March 5, 2007 11:35 AM

These days I am not fond of the word "Bush" all that much. For several reasons.
And I don't think adapting it to "fuck my buttbush" would help all that much.

Posted by: Mark at March 5, 2007 12:39 PM

I'm offended when people use nonsense or "safe" words when they want to say "bad" words... like, "Oh Fudge!" Just say Fuck... or "Oh Sugar/Shoot!" Just say shit! You BASICALLY already said it! Carlin has a bit about stuff like this... he says, "Shoot is just Shit with two o's."

Posted by: condoblogger at March 5, 2007 02:05 PM

I'm with cb. It's just a fucking word. CUNT. CUNT. CUNT. It's no more hateful than SLUT. I actually think it's less hateful than slut and as a woman, I'd rather be called a CUNT than a SLUT than day -- I may have a cunt but I'm no fucking slut. And no offense, but to think the word is considered the most offensive word out there because it is used in a hateful way is overly simplistic. There's way more to it than that.

Posted by: 'stina at March 5, 2007 02:31 PM

I always was partial to the word Gomo. Geeky Homo. My hubby is one.

Words don't offend me like faggot or queer. I think todays society gets to bent out of shape and trying to be contstantly PC. I think we all should just make of ourselves.

Just pick up a dvd of Lisa Lampinelli sometime and listen. Love her!

"Faggot" bothers me when it's used like Anne Coul...(sorry, I just vomited) did recently. Now SHE'S a fuckin' cu...nope, not going to stoop to it. Anyway, I hear the cunt word here in Australia so much that I've almost become numbed to it. It's fairly common, especially in the Aboriginal community, to hear someone call another person a black or white cunt. (My partner is Aboriginal, so I'm exposed to it more than you'd think.) Sometimes it's used jokingly; but, man, it's offensive when used hatefully.

Posted by: sandy at March 5, 2007 05:58 PM

"Boy" - well, it doesn't offend me.. actually I quite like the word used in its proper context. HOWEVER, it truly annoys the crap out of me when it is used by some 47 year old nasty submissive bttm on Manhunt... in which case he spells it "BOI" (cumbucketboi, boihole4blackcock, raunchyjockboi, feltcherboi, etc...). Um.... ew.

Posted by: Andrew at March 5, 2007 08:15 PM

Head-on! Apply directly to the head!

dBud: Forehead. Thanks.

"Shakira"

Posted by: Dumbek at March 5, 2007 09:43 PM

Some lesbian from Georgia called me "straight" the other night at drag bingo. I was so offended. Granted, gay people don't usually go to drag bingo anymore, but it was a friend's divorce party.

Anywho, I guess a beard and a hoodie negate my cocksucking abilities. So sad
.

Yeah I knew you would wonder why I didn't like bud. its my issues with the cult of masculinity. to each their own. but I love love love cunt.

I "Pacifically" said, I want fries with this shake.

Posted by: Curt at March 8, 2007 05:14 PM

The reason I use this word is precisely because the cunt deserves to be told that she's being a cunt.

Case in point: Next-door neighbor who kept parking in our shared alley w/her big-assed SUV (against neighborhood association and city of Atlanta ordinance), but felt compelled to come to my house and call me a fucking asshole for honking my horn as I squeezed past in my MINI Cooper (which is incidentally now for sale on ajccars.com).

Basically, how that went down was, "get off my porch before I call the cops, you fat, low-rent, cunt!" And get your roots done, slob! As she walked away.

Yes, it was very Jerry Springer and I was forever known in the neighborhood for calling her this, but the cunt never parked in the alleyway again. Sometimes this sort of language is the only thing people respond to. And it actually felt good to really let someone have it after sitting in Atlanta traffic for 2 hours.
