Baton Twirling 2007

Pride has hit DC with a vengeance. 17th Street is a smorgasbord of rainbow colors. I'll be celebrating my love of the same sex by hitting the parade and the festival.

I reckon I'll see some of this:

And some of this:
Woof

And a lot of this:

It's a good time.

Many people bemoan the need for Pride celebrations. Then I read heartbreaking stories like this one.

I have a huge amount of respect for gay people living honestly in rural areas. Though, I suppose it would be even more difficult to be a transgendered muslim, wearing a turban, living in a rural area. So, it's cool they can come into the city to celebrate who they are, without worry.

There will be some crazy things to see during the weekend, but there's also enough boring "normal" stuff to see as well.

So I'll be there, celebrating all those who came before me, who died for my gay sins. Also, I'll be honoring the ass.

Thanks for sharing and giving me a reason to go.

This is my first year in a long time where I'm not involved w/a charity event so it will be nice to be a spectator again.

Oh, that poor guy! (now, guess which one I mean)

I watched the parade, and really enjoyed it, but was sad not to see any old friends.

Also, it's nice seeing shirtless muscle boys in the parade and on the sidelines.

It's also quite convenient when the parade passes in front of my apartment building.

Ah, you guys have it the same weekend we did. I hear you had much better weather than we did. Hope y'all had a fun one!

Thanks for pointing out that post, btw.

I marched in the 1984 and 1996 Pride Parades in San Francisco. I could lie and go on about how liberating the parades are, but that's not my style.

The parades today are freak shows. I honestly believe that if you want you should be able to do whatever in parades. I just don't like it when the entire gay community is judged by them.

After the parade on Saturday there were a ton 'o drunk queens all up and down 17th Street. After I got my grease on at Annie's I came down from my buzz and joined them.

Wow, looks like a fun time had by all! :)

A fun time was had by all except Jeff who seemed to go to the wrong parade. Sounds like he went to the Pride Parade when he meant to go to the Boring Parade. Parades are supposed to be "freak shows." You want normal? How often do you find yourself commuting to work with marching bands or men in kilts playing bagpipes? Can you imagine if he went to the Mummer's Day Parade? Perhaps he'd be happier watching the Gay Bankers float go by. Followed by the Gay CPAs. Now that would be freakish.
