Sordid Lives
A friend of mine calls me and says, "Dude, you're not gonna believe this-- the guy I was with last night shit all over me! Do you want to grab some dinner later?"
So we went out to dinner. I'm a sucker for sex horror stories.
Anyway, we just back from a week long gig in Rehoboth. Welcome home!
A good friend of ours rented a beach house for a week, and he was kind enough to invite us along. We met several other gay boys from Charlotte, NC, who were staying at the house. I love those southern gays. So funny and sweet and good at cooking and the piano. It was a wonderful time with wonderful people.
Rehoboth was full of kids, homos and even a few trannies. The first day at the beach we saw a bunch of trannies parading in the water, with their tits hanging out, taking pictures. This started a pointing and snickering frenzy with the children. I told a few of the kids, "Don't be fooled; she has a dick."
There were also tons of lesbians there. Why does every lesbian seem to have a black lab? Is this a prerequesite, like field hockey? What's wrong with beagles? Just curious.
I also learned there are two types of gay guys: those that think the movie "Sordid Lives" is the funniest movie ever; and those that don't laugh at all. I belong in the latter category. I have never not laughed so hard in my life -- except that one time I caught "Last Call with Carson Daly." I don't think there is an in-between on that film. Just thought I'd put that out there.
Here are some pics from the week.

I'm in the other camp, I love Sordid Lives. If you grow up in the South, it is fraking HIGH-larious.
My favorite Scene:
Therapist: I am therapy you little faggot!
Bubba: Well, it ain't a workin'
*rubber band snap* Ouch!

I am so completely in love with you right now, its insane!
I absolutely HATE the movie "Sordid Lives". I didn't laugh at all (well, once-- during the therapy scene) but that's it. And every southern guy LOVES this movie. WHY?!?!?!?
I also didn't enjoy the movie "Raising Arizona". Nope, not at all.

I actually am in the "in-between" on Sordid Lives. It has its high points: during a dramatic "jail break out of the psych ward" scene, when Brother Boy, who is assisted by childhood crush Wardell, leans out the pickup truck window, throws his high heels at the pursuing security guard, and shouts "Can you see my pussy now? Haul ass, Wardell!" That gets me laughing hard every time, then I sleep during the last 1/3 of the movie from sheer boredom. No Ambien required.

Sordid Lives is HILARIOUS! I love every scene with Brother Boy and Dr. Eve. Especially when she keeps coming on to Brother Boy.
Olivia Newton John did a wonderful job with the music. It is a hilarious film for us Southern Gays!

Also put me in the middle camp on "Sordid Lives." As an Arkansan of many generations', um, "pedigree," I find a lot of the scenes hilariously reminiscent of my father's side of the family. And the Brother Boy scenes, too -- although I didn't have any diminutive Tammy Wynette-obsessed drag queens in my family, as far as I know.
But the movie is, mostly, otherwise a badly typical gay-made, gay-themed snoozer. Why can't our people seem to make good films, seeing as how we're good at all the other artsy stuff?

I love sordid lives, but then I like those offbeat movies, like Party Monster and have you seen Drop Dead Gorgeous?

I just had to read up on former and latter... I read your post like 5 times or more and could not figure out why your commenters were WITH you on the NOT liking "Sorted Lives." Each time I read that paragraph it was clear to me that you had "never laughed so hard in your life." Kept missing the "not."
Personally I like "Sorted Lives." Don't own it or anything, but if someone wants to rent it or whatever I'm cool with that.
Thanks by the way for forcing me to learn how to correctly use "former and latter." Former = First Named, Latter = Last Named.
I freaking LOVE your "Pulled out" shirt by the way.

Yep..even I'll admit a deep affection for Sordid Lives...the lines are just classic and if you didn't get it the first time--watch it with some friends again. "Oh, DR EVE!"... and "SISS-Y!"... Although, I will admit that I've never figured out wtf Olivia Newton-John was doing in the movie (tragic as she is these days all pulled back and shit)....Speaking of shit--yuck.

Sorta 50/50 on the Sordid.

Never saw it, and no desire, too...but I think I would be in TJ's camp on this one. But then again, I'm a Yankee, so I couldn't possibly understand all that Southern cultured humor. Therapy? Ha...that's so new and refreshing. Ever heard of Annie Hall?

I've barely even been to the South except to change planes, and I am in the LOVE category with S.L. "Shoot 'er, Wardell! Shoot 'er in the haid!" ("Annie Hall," too; to this lifelong Californian, it's all exotic, somewhat ethnic humor/pathos, not far from Fellini.)

Oh, no. I'm in the other camp, too. Love Sordid Lives. Mostly, because being Southern, it hits so close to home; I have to laugh so that I don't cry.
And, wow, aren't you a cute lil' ole thang.

ain't never seen Sordid Lives..gotta get me one of them disc thingies on line

Yep, I'm a fan of SL, too. Also a Southerner, so that might have something to do with it.
I do think it was probably better live on stage. I'd like to mount a performance here in Sydney, only as a vanity production so I could play Brother Boy.

I thought SL tried waaaay too hard and wasn't that funny. And I'm from the south and really tried to like it. Oh well.

Yeah we had this conversation. Sordid Lies is lost on me too. Besides the story, the cinematography is just as bad, if not worse. I cannot tell you how many times I had to sit through it to be gracious to my southern friends. BTW Raising Arizona I got, probably 'cause I'm just borderline white Baltimore trash.
