Medieval Times
The trip is going well. I've only had to reprimand my mom a couple times for speaking too loudly in public. I now say, "Mom, please use your European voice." She gets it.
Brugge, Belgium is stunning. I'm always pleased when someone tips me off to small, magical towns that are not your run-of-the-mill, well-known tourist destinations (at least not to this American). Here are some pics, including some shots of the trees on the drive there:

Happy holidays, kids!

Didja go up in the guild tower? Didja, huh?
Happy xmas!
DB: Yes! Proof here and here. The stairs were quite narrow, and the bell went off when we were up there. I still can't hear. But it was beautiful.

Loved Brugge, but couldn't spend the night when we were there many years ago, all the hotels were booked solid for some kind of medieval festival....We ended up in Antwerp...now THAT was a kick-ass city.

Glad you are enjoying Belgium, the Dutch is funny there but easier to understand!
Hate to burst your bubble but never visit Brugge when it is warm, it is like Belgium's super-tourist destination since Brussels kindof sucks. :-)

Be sure to report back on any observations you have as an American. Especially if you have a moment of clarity as to the meaning of life, how the Universe was created, or something big like that.

Beautiful town. I LOVE Euro villages with the big town squares (with pubs and beer gardens!)

Brugge is totally cool. My dad and I stumbled on it years ago on a we-have-no-itinerary trip to see my brother. Being the gadget freak that I am, I wanted to see the clock in the clocktower. Imaging my delight when it did it's full chime-with-all-the-trimmings right when I got up there.
Have fun!

Hey, I'm so glad you're doing a little Euro-blogging on your trip. Great stories, great pics.

Once again, proof that the correct way to roast one's duck udder is to do so gently, not flash-fry.
And the dab of "estragon"? As Emeril would say, "BAM!"
