All I Have to Say is Life Comes at You in Many Ways

VinnieWhile trying to read online material not related to politics, I stumbled upon the website of porn star Vinnie D'Angelo. Sadly, he is going through a rough patch. He was hurt in a fall and doesn't have porn star health insurance to cover his hospital fees. It all comes back to politics, doesn't it? He writes about the ordeal on his site and is now seeking donations to pay off his $2500 hospital visit. This is heartbreaking:

"...So as some of you heard i fucked my ankle up in San Francisco. Yes i am on crutches for some time with a "skiers boot brace" on...All i have to say is life comes at you in many ways.. and you have to take it as it comes. For you out there that is wondering how i did this...i was running down the stairs to the muni station trying to catch the train that was already there. halfway running down the stairs i twisted my left ankle and grabbed onto the railing to protect it and then shifted my weight on the other foot of which was not securely on the step(being half on and half off) so in turn twisted the fuck outta that one...not good not at all i said to myself. But as of many here in the united states that have no insurance or cant afford it...i was then told i should goto the hospital no matter the cost...i had tore the ligaments in both sides of my ankle...i actually had a hairline fracture and actually a bone fragment that chipped off the larger bone. oh fuck!!!! is what i said...I will heal pretty fast being as healthy as i am.. well seeing that just the emergency room visit was costing me a couple thousand(of which i don't have to spend)...So there it is...Well i am writing this to access some kind of help with this from fans out there.. cuz unfortunately i do not have health insurance. There is no such thing as pornstar health insurance. Allot of people will ask "don't you get paid allot for a film"? Well "NO" is the answer. Since everything is going online pay-per-view no one is buying videos anymore of which drives the price down for us that do the actual acting in the films, So in cases like these, the out of pocket expense is astronomical in comparison with someone that has health insurance. Until a new president comes in power and changes that(lets cross our fingers for universal health coverage)i will be shit outta luck in going for any kind of health care. Unfortunately this case i had no choice. So any of you great fans and supporters out there have it in your heart to help me out... it would be greatly appreciated!!! thnx"

When a hunk of man-beef cannot afford health insurance, you know the economy sucks. Where is the love and support among the many profitable gay porn companies? It's like they are using him. Step up.

Porn stars give and give and give and give (and sometimes receive), with their images used all over the world, and they still get paid shit. Maybe he should supplement his income by escorting, like most of us regular folk have to do to pay our electric bill. Or maybe these porn companies could offer health insurance when signing someone as an "Exclusive." My gay porn company would, fer sure.

He should just double as the First Dude, Todd Palin and get on the federal coiffer. They look similar enough.

Now I KNOW I am voting for McCain.

Now waitaminnit...if porn stars can't get health insurance, then how does Erik Rhodes afford all his drugs??

Oh...

Posted by: johnny at September 24, 2008 10:54 AM

Fuck him!

Can't he just pull that much porn money from under his filthy mattress?

$2500 isn't that big of a hospital bill.

He can just suck a few more dicks than usual this week.

Vinnie D'Angelo has been on my list for many moons, sad to know he's injury.

I will contribute by visiting his website as much as I can. :D

actually the out of pocket expense with someone who has insurance is almost the same, When I had a kidney stone and was rushed to the emergency room (I thought it was appendicitis) my out of pocket expense was $1500 after insurance. For one thing he can have it billed out monthly, for another universal health care isn't going anywhere with a 1 trillion dollar bail-out being talked about on the Hill.
I do feel kind of guilty for using pay per view porn though...They break it down by scenes and acts!!! How am I suppose to resist that???

This guy is dumber than a box of cock rings.

There are numerous careers besides "porn actor" that don't automatically include health insurance. Most people, at least those who are smart, purchase their own insurance and include the fee in their budget each month. It's his own damn fault for not doing that. It's not the porn industry or the government's fault.

Posted by: chrisb at September 24, 2008 11:56 AM

Vinnie is quite the fine speciman for sure. I don't understand how he can't afford $2,500. If he only does porn, then he needs to branch out and go into the lucrative stripper/escort world.

Vinnie should have no trouble pulling in six figures if he stripped more and did less porn. Some people I know (COUGH) have been known to blow $500 a weekend at Swinging Richards in Atlanta.

wait, what happened to the "Tyra holding an apple, being all Evil Stepmother" post?

DB: She's in seclusion -- she'll be back. The purpose of that post was to highlight the overlooked link to Squirrel Melts in the previous post. Mission accomplished, moving on.

I'm surprised these guys are not part of the Screen Actors Guild and covered by SAG's health package. Their acting is much more realistic than some of the stuff you can watch on TV.

I would say that he should get a job as a "greeter" at WalMart (as he would be a good greeter!!)

But I dont' think they get health insurance either.

Posted by: cb at September 24, 2008 01:59 PM

I just looked at his donation site. You'd think that since he buys his clothes at GayMart, he'd have plenty of money left over for medical bills.

Posted by: MPG at September 24, 2008 02:22 PM

Most "porn stars" are contractual not full-time employees. Companies, of any sort, rarely offer anything to contractual employees. Convenient for the porn industry wouldn't you say? Not that I blame him for soliciting help. I'm quite sure he'll get enough to pay it all and then some. However, his implication on the shifting medium of distribution shows a lack of personal responsibility (and understanding), IMHO.

Living your life based on an industry as fickle as porn is folly to begin with. Hopefully, he can see that now and make changes in his personal life to prevent this in the future.

I moved from the States to Australia and I won't qualify for their "socialized medicine" (that the repubs are always trying to scare you about) until at least 2 years after I arrived. Given that all my expenses are out of pocket - I can see my primary doctor the same day (that's not counting emergencies, just calling for a normal appt), and my drug expenses are about 1/10th of the price my hmo said they were saving me when I was in the States.

If the US were to get universal healthcare under McSame, I'm sure there would be another trillion dollar bailout for insurance company CEOs.

He's such a pretty young thing, I'm sure he won't have any problems raising the required funds, besides he can still work, there are plenty of scenes that can still be filmed that won't require having his ankle in frame... He just needs to do more work on his knees.

Posted by: Kezza at September 24, 2008 06:11 PM

Right now he has everything I want in a trick. Hot, hung, fuzzy, dumb as a bag of doorknobs and he can't run very fast so I stand a chance. Moby's right tho... The dude seriously needs a "plan B."

Posted by: Boomer at September 24, 2008 07:28 PM

Gimme me a fuckin break! Pun not intended really. Cry me a river Mary.... Then get a life.

Posted by: DD at September 24, 2008 08:35 PM

Did he say "acting"? He truly is clueless!

Posted by: rodger at September 24, 2008 09:52 PM

Ouch... so much anger... I put myself through college working in food service and some of that time was without insurance... often you can't afford it if your company doesn't provide it. Many of the people I worked with were not college material and worked 2 jobs just to survive. Say what you will about Vinnie, but there are a lot of people who work hard, who worry every day what they will do if what happened to Vinnie happens to them. Show a little compassion.

Whatever, I beat off ALOT to his movies.

Posted by: Mark at September 25, 2008 11:15 AM

I feel for the guy -- I mean, he obviously can't make any cash on the side as a grammar tutor....

Posted by: Rob at September 25, 2008 02:32 PM

Maybe he'll get lucky and they'll cast him on Grey's Anatomy as "Dr. McSticky".

Posted by: cb at September 25, 2008 04:20 PM

Well, I try to feel sorry for using pay per view, but I can't. See, insteed of paying $70 to buy a 90min porn DVD to get off... I can just spend $19.99 for 500 minutes... and I can just pick the scene that I like and 3 minutes later Im done with my business (yes, 3 minutes... Im 25! we do it fast!) Anyways... THATS SAVING!!
And in regards to the porn star $2500 bill... there are more needed children starving in the developing world that need more help that he does... He can easily do a few more escort services a week and have that bill pay-in-full in no time!

Posted by: CA_Boy at September 26, 2008 10:32 AM

Hell: I'll contribute $20 for some English lessons, or perhaps a grammer check for his computer!

Posted by: seth at September 26, 2008 03:20 PM

I have to agree with some on here that, much as I am for national health insurance, this post is the most compelling example I've seen to be against, or least not care about, implementing a national health insurance program. This guy needs to get himself at least an eight grade education and a job with someplace like the San Francisco AIDS Foundation. They do cover their employees with health care insurance.

Sorry I know a lot of my brethren are huge professional porn fans. I'll stick with x-tube and amatuer sites.

Posted by: DanH at September 26, 2008 05:38 PM

Universal health care is the only answer. It will actually help not just people who are currently uninsured, it will also help hospitals who can't get reimbursed for providing care to the uninsured.

Mark :-)

Like most "adult film stars" he's a hustler and knows how to use his looks and dick to get money. This sob-story over his foot will probably net him thousands, tax free. Not buying it.
