BREAKING: Foreskin May Not Be 'All That'

I'm pretty ambivalent when it comes to foreskin. It is what it is. No judgments either way.

But some people go ape shit when the topic comes up. You know the ones, they're all, "How dare my parents mutilate me without my consent and deny me the intense pleasure afforded by that extra layer of skin!!! OH GOD, WHY?!? WHHHHHHHHHHY?!?"

For those of you who think you were deprived I offer you this:

A friend of mine decided -- at the age of 25! -- to have his foreskin removed. The horror!!! He just wasn't a big fan of it or something. So he had a doctor chop it off. Kinda like lipo, but different.

After he told us the story of why and how it happened, he proudly pulled out his new circumcised penis to prove to us that the surgery was a success. Ooooo-kay. It's always slightly awkward when a friend whips out his dick in front of you and says, "Look!" But we are supportive friends! It looked like a normal dick to me, no scars or discoloration. If it makes him happy, then I'm happy. Yay! Be proud of your dick. Dick Pride '09!

Here's the thing:

He says he finds no difference whatsoever in the feeling during sex. This is a direct quote, "It feels the exact same to me as it did when I had foreskin."

Fascinating!

So relax, boys. With or without the hood, it's still all good.

Well, thanks for that. Finally I'll be able to get a good night's sleep and not be wondering 'Should I be upset that my parents mutilated me without my consent when I was too young to even know what was going on?'

Odd. The roommate of an ex who had himself cut at 17 said, "It was like my dick went numb. I spent the next two years trying to have it undone."

Everyone's mileage varies, I guess.

I'm one of those who are proud of my parents for "mutilated me without my consent".

I *never* understood the furor some have over this issue. Besides, in the US being cut means being one of the crowd. I think the first uncut dick I ever saw was in Montreal.

None of my friends ever pull their dicks out for me to look. I'm sad now. I need new friends.

I'm afraid that I don't find this datum to be of much use. I think that anyone who goes through that procedure, voluntarily, at that age, is going to want to think there's no difference.

My father got circumcised when he was in his sixties. The urologist was doing something entirely unrelated, and told him, "Hey, while we're down there, we might as well remove the foreskin." I didn't ask Dad to whip it out or about his sex life, but I did ask him whether the recovery was painful, and he said "very."

As long as the penis works, I don't care much whether it's cut or uncut, and I've experienced enough uncut meat that it's ceased to seem exotic any more. But I can't imagine having the foreskin removed as an adult unless it was seriously in your way.

Clearly your friend is a bottom.

Once upon a time I too parted with mine at the age of 19, since it was entirely too tight. Had it not been I wouldn't have needed the surgery; it is after all some weird religious practice confined to crazy fundies and Americans after all. That said, you will not be able to convince me that the amount of movement of anything near it that I now can tolerate with impunity wasn't enough to make me inhale deeply and cry inside the year after.

I'm not mad at my parents for having done it, (it's just something everyone did back then) but I see no reason for continuing the practice of involuntary genital mutilation. It should have been my choice. Throw off the shackles of barbarism and all that.

I thought you were not allowed to see your gay friends bits, it's against the gay rules of never do your friends :) but re foreskin, I get annoyed at those that say if we are all without it we won't get aids - such ignorance, whilst there are studies to suggest yes foreskins might be more at risk, really, as you said Mr DB either way it's fine.

I don't have a preference, hard cock is hard cock.

Still having my hood, I have no desire to get rid of it. Most guys I talk to who have gone thru it as an adult stated there is some sensitivity loss. Depending on how sensitive you are in the beginning, that might or might not be a good thing.

There are rare instances when it is medically necessary for normal "operation".

I am skeptical, basically because of the particular situation and the age of the individual. I wonder if older men, who often have a hard time staying hard, would say the same thing.

not having a foreskin makes you very identifiable in european crowds.... and "docking" or snoodling" is right out...

Posted by: Tim at April 24, 2009 10:25 AM

Well, I'm cut... and I can't say that I miss it because I think I had all of a few hours with the skin.

However, I DO love uncut cock on my sexual partners! It's like a christmas prezzie that you get to keep unwrapping...

and wrapping...

and unwrapping...

Ok, so I am the friend who proudly pulled out his new circumcised penis to prove TJ and Rob that my surgery was a success.... Why I did it? cause it's normal in my culture...and they are like older brothers to me... Yes, I got admit that I got a bit hard when I was showing them my penis, but I could not control it. Its nature!

Now, in my defence I have to point out the following:

1. I'm not a bottom. I use my dick alot (topping)
2. I did have my foreskin removed at 25 for 2 reasons: A). There was too much skin at the end of my penis, that my dick almost looked like a pacifier. B). I wanted my dick to look like "everybody else" at the "gym's shower", sex clubs, and naked it parties. - Yes, I can say I did it for looks and not for medical reasons or HIV prevention or any of that B.S.
3. Yes, the cirgury is VERY painful, but I did it because my urologist told me it would be a simple cirgury and with tylenol for the pain I will be okay. All lies!
4. Recovery time is about 3 months - for your dick to work perfect and be back to "Business as Usual"
5. Numb dick? Yes, for the first week or so... but then it all goes away. IT IS DEFINATELY NOT A PERMANENT NUMB. The previous poster's friend must have had something else or surgury complications.
6. Scars? Minimum to none. - Bleeding? A lot the first month. - Pain? intense the first month, specialy when you wake up with the morning wood, since the stiches will streach/pull.
7. Lost of sensitivity? In my case, none. I personaly believed that my sensitivity increased, because now that the hood is off, the head is expoused and therefore there is more sensitivity.
8. I also personaly believe that without the hood it is more hygienic.
9. After my surgery, I feel more confident and happy. I wasnt before.
10. In conclusion, if you are happy with your hood, dont remove it!! if you are not happy, then remove it... you will be so happy after...

Thank you. You're doing our community a service. Foreskin, schmoreskin. Just have fun with the damn thing, hoodie or otherwise.

Personally I love mine and I've met more guys who thought it was hot than not.

Circumcised at age 42 no "medical necessity". I like the "view" immensely. Sensual responsiveness is excellent. Counting going permanently retracted at age 12, that's 75 years of exposure of the glans and it is still responding nicely!

I actually gained better contact at the coronal rim and behind from have the unecessary skin removed-great! This is a big plus compared to having foreskin insulate you from pleasure!
